81.The Hindu news.

            I have translated a book.  The Hindu news paper was the last of all the interviews and articles I came in.  We thought that the news paper won’t come anymore.  But it did not happen.  At last of all, an author called Akila came from The Hindu news paper.  She came with a note book to interview me.  She first asked what is my name.  Then she asked which class I’m studying in.  Then she asked how the interest came for me to translate the book. “First, l translated a Panchatantra story called ‘The blue colored fox.  The story was like a fox doused in blue die.  I translated that story from my Tamil reader.  My father said that, it was nice.  My father then said me to translate S.Ramakrishnan’s book called Kaal Mulaitha Kathaikal.  It was a collection of small, children’s stories.”

                 She noted it down.  Then I said, “When I went to my native place, Kanyakumari, l took the original book, my note book and pencil with me.  in 15 days, l translated 20 stories.  After six months, I finished translating the whole story book.  It was released on March this year.  My translation was named ‘Nothing but water’.  It was released by Director Balu Mahendra.  I got several awards for this translation, including the ‘Nalli Thaisai Ettum Award’.  I know to read and write Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, Sanskrit and English.”

                 Then I said that I had a blog too.  So, Akila said that she also had a blog.  Then, I straight away went to my father’s laptop to see if she really had a blog.  When I searched, she really had a blog.  Then Akila told me to read her blog.  She said that she would also read my blog.  Then she took some photos of me and went away.  

                           

85.Kathai kambalam - Part VII

                        

Kubuk said, “That’s what is dream.  If l see a dream, you’ll come there by yourself.”

The oyster became confused.  It said, “How will l come in someone’s dream without taking my permission?”

Kubuk laughed and said, “Can you understand what is dream?”

The oyster said, “Dream means… dream only.”

Kubuk said, “That is the matter.  When l’m sleeping, you will come in my dream.”

The oyster became confused again.  It said, “For seeing a dream, should l be asleep or awake?”

Kubuk said, “l don’t care all about that.  the dream will come when l’m asleep only.”

The oyster asked, ”When you’re asleep, will all the awake things will come in your mind?”

Kubuk said, “Keep it like that itself.”

The oyster asked, “lf l come awake in your dream, what will happen?”

Kubuk said, “Yes.  Nothing is going to happen when you come asleep in my dream also.  When I wake up, you’ll also wake up.”

The oyster said, “How will l wake up when you wake up?”

Kubuk said, “That is only dream.”

The oyster said, “l’m very much confused,” and was about to run.

Kubuk said, “Nothing is there to confuse.  Dream is an easy thing.”

The oyster asked, “When l see a dream, will you come in that?”

Kubuk said, “l’ll come by myself.”

The oyster said frightened, “lf a whale comes in my dream!?”

Kubuk said, “Nothing will happen if a whale comes.”

The oyster asked frightened again, “Who said nothing will happen?”

Kubuk said, “lt cannot do anything in dream.”

“Lie.  A whale will remain like a whale only!,” a cruel voice said.  The oyster ran as fast as it could.  There was a whale in the size of two large and fat elephants in the opposite of Kubuk.

Kubuk was very scared to look at it.  But also it gathered some courage.

                   

84.Kathai kambalam - Part VI

                 

Kubuk said, “Am l blabbering?  You are only becoming afraid of nothing.”

The sea turtle said, “You should not talk one word after this.  I can understand that dream is a very bad thing from your talk itself.  If l think of that, l’ll die of becoming afraid.”

Kubuk scolded the sea turtle, “For remaining like an idiot, you better die”, and went away.

The sea turtle pulled its head inside the shell and started to become inactive.  Purposefully, Kubuk shouted, “See if the dream comes and holds your neck.”

There was no movement in the sea turtle.  Kubuk thought, “Oh!  What is this?  No one knows about dream”, and swam to the whale’s house to ask if it knows about dream alone and brave.  On the way it met an oyster.  The oyster asked, “Brother, whom are you going to meet?”

Kubuk said, being irritated, “l’ll go anywhere!  What for you?”

For that, the oyster replied, “In this path, there are a huge number of whales.  If one sees you, it will eat you like a lollipop.  That why l asked.”

Kubuk said, “l am not scared of all that.  do you know anything about dream?”

The oyster asked, “Who is dream?  Is he your friend?”

Kubuk said, “It is not my friend or enemy.  Dream means dream only.  That’ll be very nice.”

The oyster said, “Then give me some to eat.  I’ll eat and say.”

Kubuk said, “lt is not a chocolate to eat.”

The oyster said, “Then what’s that?”

Kubuk said, “Dream means dream only!”

The oyster asked, “Like whom will the dream be?”

Kubuk said, “Dream will be…. like you too.  Not like you, you itself.”

The oyster asked, “How can l come in dream?”

83.Kathai kambalam - Part V

               

The sea turtle’s house was in a slanting way.  That place was dirty with black colored dirty things.  That sea turtle was the oldest in the sea and it makes freaking noises like “sss… kkk… sss…” 

Kubuk shook the sea turtles nose saying, “Turtle grandpa, turtle grandpa!  Wake up!”

The sea turtle said in a weak voice, “Say what is the matter.”

Kubuk, “Grandpa, l’m here.  Thippi’s son.”

The sea turtle said without opening its eyes, “l saw when you came itself.”

Kubuk asked, “You don’t even open your.  Then how will you see?”  

The sea turtle said, “It had become ten years when my both eyes stuck.  But also no damage in that.  I can see everything with my eyes closed.  I can go anywhere outside as I have leg pain.  Your father is my friend, you know?”

Kubuk asked to the sea turtle, “Turtle grandpa, do you know anything about dream?”

The sea turtle asked, “What are you blabbering like human beings?  Did you go at the side of the sea?”   

Kubuk said, “No, grandpa.  Do you know anything about dream or not?”

The sea turtle said, “It is like known also.  It is like unknown also.  Is the dream coming to catch you and eat you?”

Kubuk said, “No, grandpa.  Dream is a thing.  I don’t know how to say the meaning.  Dream means dream only.”

The sea turtle said frightened, “You are speaking just like human beings.  First say to your mother to buy good medicines to cure this habit or you will loose your intelligence.”

Kubuk said, “Oh, grandpa!  You cannot understand what l’m saying.  Now you’re closing your eyes and seeing, aren’t you?  Like that, when we close our eyes, we can see it.  When we open our eyes, we cannot see it.”

The sea turtle said, “How can it go?  Now if I open my eyes, you will be there, won’t you?”

Kubuk asked, “lf l and this sea vanishes, how will it be?”

“Oh, my god!  Don’t talk about that.  l’m very scared.  I cannot think myself if this sea vanishes.  Your intelligence has damaged by hurting it when you hit some where.  That’s why you are blabbering some thing” , the sea turtle said shivering.   

                                                                  

82.Kathai kambalam - Part IV

 

Tilapia said, “The dream will not come for me.  I should somehow join in fight school.  That is the only worry.  that is why I am making my body fit.

Kubuk asked again, “Then you don’t know what is dream, eh?”

Tilapia said, ”I don’t know what color the dream will be and what is the taste of dream also.”  

 Kubuk said, “Get lost, you idiot!  You don’t know anything other than eating and sleeping”, and went swimming to ask others that they see dreams.

Kubuk thought that the seahorses would certainly know and went near the seahorses’ house.  The seahorses were swimming up and down.  Kubuk stopped a seahorse and asked, “Brother, did you see any dreams in your life?” 

The seahorse said, “Come with me.  I’ll tell you”, and went to the level of the sea.  In the midway, the seahorse started coming down.

Kubuk asked again, “Brother, did you see any dreams in your life?”

The seahorse said thinking, “Dream?  I have heard someone say about it.”

Kubuk said, “My dream was like I went to the sea and captured two humans from the land.”

The seahorse nervously said running here and there, “What!  Humans?  Where?  Where?”  Kubuk said, “Humans won’t come real in dreams.”  But also, the scared seahorse hiding somewhere screamed, “Run everybody, run!  Humans are coming inside the sea to capture us!”

Kubuk thought, “Huh!  This is also foolish”, and went to the sea turtle’s house to ask weather it sees any dreams.

   

                

80.Kathai kambalam - Part III

Mother said, “There is nothing meaning dream.  Don’t lie.”

Kubuk said, “l read about it in a story book.  It itself came in my mind.  You’re only saying lie, not me.  You cannot understand what I’m saying.  Hereafter I won’t talk about dream to you.”

Mother said, “I should not leave you alone in the house.  You have become bad.”

Kubuk went all alone angrily.  Its elder sister came and asked what is the meaning of dream.

Kubuk said, “l won’t say to you.”

Elder sister said, “You’re not saying because l’ll identify your lie easily.”

Kubuk said, “No.  If I say to you, you’ll also not trust me.”

Elder sister said, “Then say like trusting you.”

Kubuk said, “When we start to sleep, dream will come on its own.”

Elder sister, “How do you know that it is dream?”

Kubuk said, “l read it in a book.”

Elder sister, “How can you see what is happening when you’re sleeping?”

Kubuk said, “I don’t know!  But it wiII come.”

Elder sister said, “Get lost, you liar”, and went away.

Kubuk thought, “No one is understanding my dream”, and went to the playground.

It went searching for its friend tilapia as it wanted to know that every baby fishes see dreams.  Tilapia was doing hard physical exercise.  When he saw Kubuk, he said, “What friend?  If you exercise and make your body fit, you can join in the wrestling match conducted inside the sea, no?” 

Kubuk asked to tilapia, “Tilapia, you saw any dreams in your life?”, saying that it cannot join in the wrestling match.

Tilapia asked without understanding anything, “What is the meaning of dream?”

Kubuk did not know how to tell.  It said, “The meaning of dream is we see something in dream, but if open our eyes and see, that thing will not be there.”

Tilapia asked, “What is the name of it you said?”

Kubuk said, “DREAM.”

Tilapia asked, “Who taught you this?”

Kubuk said, ”Know one taught me.  I myself know.”

   

                

79.Kathai kambalam - Part II

  

Kubuk  doesn’t like that game.  It dreams about something on the day which it is alone.  It dreamt that, ”Kubuk went out of the sea straight away to the land.  It brought two human beings from the land to the sea.  The human beings begged to leave them alone.  Kubuk said that, “I’ll not leave you.  How much trouble you’re giving us?  Today’s minimum is at least your ear.”  They begged and begged.  ”How many days we panicked?  You didn’t even leave us”, Kubuk said these words and started biting the humans’ noses.  The humans loud scream woke up Kubuk.          

Kubuk thought, “Wow!  What a nice dream!”, and went to say to its mother.

The humans caught Kubuk’s father and killed it.  So, it had a mother and only one elder sister.

Kubuk’s mother told, “Dream?  What is that?  What are you blabbering? Don’t imagine like that reading bad story books.”

Kubuk said, “No, mom.  Really I saw it.”       

Mother said, “Show me what you saw.  Then only I’ll trust.”

Kubuk said, “Only l can see my dream.”

Mother said, “l can see a big sea myself.  Then how come I cannot see your dream?  Why are you lying to me?”

Kubuk said, “No, mom.  I really saw a dream.”

Mother said, “What is mean by dream?  Say it first and go!”

Kubuk said, “The things that won’t happen, will happen.  That is only dream.”

Mother said, “What is mean by won’t happen?”

Kubuk said, “Example, “I went to the land and brought two human beings inside the sea.”

Mother shouted, ”Oh!  Why is your brain going zig - zag?  How much time should I say to not think about going to the land?  From where are you learning all these bad things?”

Kubuk said, “l did not learn, mom.  The dream itself came for me.”

Mother said, ”l hate the word ‘DREAM’.”

Kubuk asked, "Mom, why am I dreaming?”
