118. The bad workman.

Once, there lived two workmen called Shyamu and Ramu.  Shyamu had skill in carving wood, metal etc. but Ramu lacked it.  They both were working for a rich man. One day, the rich man gave both the men a piece of wood each.  He said them to carve it into two dolls.  Shyamu made a beautiful doll and started painting it.  Ramu was struggling in that work.  When the rich man asked why he did not finish carving yet, Ramu said, "My tool is not like Shyamu's.  His tool is sharp but mine is very blunt.  I am not carving because of this tool only."

Proverb: A bad workman blames his tools.
Meaning: A person who lacks skill finds lame excuses for his failures.
