119. The greedy lion.

There was once a lion who had nothing to eat.  He was too old to hunt.  One day, when the lion was sitting outside his den, a small rabbit passed by.  The lion thought of catching it.  So, soon he caught hold of the rabbit.  Then near by, a plump deer too passed by.  The greedy lion left the rabbit and became ready to catch the deer.  But when he was about to pounce on the deer, the deer noticed the lion and started to run.  The lion wasn't able to run although his legs were weak. So, he turned to catch the rabbit which he had left behind.  But, the clever rabbit ran away the minute the lion left it.  So, thereafter, no animal passed by the lion's den.  Soon the old and weak lion died of hunger.

Proverb: A bird in hand is worth two in the bush.

Meaning: It is better to be content with what you have,
however small it may be, than  to be greedy for more.
